Stacey Porter hit a game-winning solo homer, as Australia edged the hosts China 1-0 in the last playoff game on Monday.
Both teams played defensively, and even no one was able to run on third base for whole game. After three scoreless innings, Porter powered a solo homer off the Chinese starter Yu Huili in the bottom of the fourth inning and sealed the win.
The Australian starter Tanya Harding allowed three hits with two strikeouts over four innings. Melanie Roche closed the game, giving up one hit with three strikeouts.
Yu Huili allowed one run on four hits with five strikeouts over five innings. Lu Wei wrapped up the game with one hit and one strikeout.
After this defeat, China finished their trip in this championship with a record of 6-3 and placed fourth.
Australia with USA and Japan will compete for the gold medal on the grand final day.
