After the opening ceremony of the ISF XI Women's Fast Pitch World Championship on August 27, 2006, Ching-Kuo Wu, IOC member and Vice President of the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee (CTOO), gave an exclusive interview to the official website of the event. At the media centre of the Fengtai Softball Field, Wu spoke highly of the beautiful softball field, which will also be the venue for the Olympic softball competition in 2008.
As member of the IOC Coordination Commission for Beijing 2008 Ching-Kuo Wu pays great attention to Beijing's Olympic venue construction. Prior to this World Championship he had only seen a planimetric map of the softball field and today he was impressed with the real venue.
As the sixth IOC member in China's Olympic history Ching-Kuo Wu is concerned about softball's return to the Olympic Family in 2016. As he put it, Beijing 2008 will make a great impact on the future of the sport of softball, and much remains to be done by all parties, including the BOCOG, to make softball's return possible. Among all things, he emphasized the important role of the press in retaining this Olympic sport and called on the press the world over to give wide publicity to the sport.
When asked what he expected from the Chinese Taipei team at this World Championship, Wu said the CTOO had given energetic support to the team and he believed the players would go all out to achieve good results after so much training. (Photo Wu Peng)
