On September 1, 2006, the International Softball Federation held a press conference in Beijing's Fengtai Softball Field for the on-going ISF XI Women's Fast Pitch World Championship.
At the press conference presided over by Bruce Wawrzyniak, ISF Director of Communications, ISF President Don Porter spoke highly of the organizational work of the current World Championship. The 2006 World Women's Softball Championship is being held on the Olympic venue for 2008, the ISF chief noted, and operation of the tournament, including volunteer service and media publicity, goes on smoothly. He expressed his thanks to the local organizing committee for the satisfactory organization of the event.
The ISF President also thanked the host country for the great efforts it has made to popularize and promote the sport of softball. Through this World Championship, he said, the ISF has established ties of cooperation with the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee (BOCOG) and the two sides will continue to cooperate with each other in promoting the softball development both domestically and internationally.
According to Don Porter, the ISF has decided to provide the upcoming Doha 2006 Asian Games with webcasting support, and also to set up a task force with the aim of making joint efforts with all parties concerned to help regain softball's Olympic status in 2009 for the 2016 Olympic Games.
As ISF Secretary-General Andrew Loechner put it, at the time of choosing Beijing to be the host city of this World Championship the ISF had not expected that the organization of the event would be so successful. He used the word "excellent" to show his satisfaction for the work done by the local organizers. He said as the softball venue in Beijing will also be an Olympic venue in 2008 it could well be used to host more international competitions in the lead-up to the Beijing Olympic Games.
Attending the press conference were some 50 journalists from domestic and overseas media organizations.
