BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- U.S. rallied back from a 3-1 defeat to Japan to set up a rematch in grand final after beating Australia 5-1 on Tuesday at women's softball worlds, which is tagged as the first Olympic test event in Beijing.

Australia failed to spoil U.S. world championship title defense and also failed to avenge the 11-2 defeat they suffered at the hands of the Americans on Sunday's opening day of the playoffs by losing the rematch 1-5.

But it's Australia who marked the first point through a solo homer by Stacey Porter against U.S. No. 1 pitcher Catherine Osterman in the starting inning.

Stacey Porter hit a game-winning solo homer in China versus Australia match to guide Australia past the hosts 1-0 Monday to win the opportunity for a rematch with the United States.

U.S. soon fought back to level the score with a run by Andrea Duran, who walked off Australia's pitcher Melanie Roche then reached to second over Jennie Finch's sacrifice bunt before being driven home by Laura Berg's single.

The defending champions extended their momentum to take one more run in the third to lead the game 2-1. Crystl Bustos doubled to drive Jessica Mendoza home after Mendoza stole to second folloing her single. Tanya Harding then relieved on to melt down U.S. scoring trend after Stacey Nuveman hit a single to propel Bustos to third by striking out two batters.

After a silent fourth inning, U.S. came to their third point by three straight singles in the fifth. Jessica Mendoza singled and then was propelled to second base by Bustos's single and further to reach home plate over Andrea Duran's RBI single.

U.S. sealed their victory with a two-run homer from powerful batter Bustos in the sixth to nail the mark on 5-1.

U.S. produced 12 hits out of two Australia's pitchers Melanie Roche and Tanya Harding and gave up only two all through the game pitched by Osterman.

"I feel good. Now what we need is to be ready for tonight's game," said Crystl Bustos, the homer hitter.

"I am looking good into tonight's game. Everyone is going pretty good."

Australia settled with the bronze medal while U.S. progress to play Japan again for the gold medal later. The defending champions were stunned by Japan 1-3 in a previous game in Which U.S. rested their ace pitcher Osterman.

The top five teams composed of Japan, China, U.S., Canada and Australia have all got the ticket to Beijing Olympic Games and three regional qualifying events will be held in 2007 to round out the other three teams to field softball for the Games just under two years from now. Enditem
